Finding Momentum by Releasing the Brakes

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on September 24, 2013 by ericasodos

I don’t know about you but sometimes it feels as if I am moving forward with the emergency brake on (I get a bit of movement only to stall).  I start moving forward but then I slow down and sometimes even stop all together.  I try to get more acceleration, I try to go faster but alas, I am back at the place I started or if I am lucky I will have perhaps made a tiny bit of progress.  To live from our magic and power and to be successful we have to eventually gain momentum and the only way to gain momentum  is to RELEASE the brakes!

Momentum means strength and force gained by motion.  Momentum has serious magic in it!

How can we gain momentum in our own lives?

Things that block or stop us from getting momentum:

Addictions/Obsessions

Bad Habits

Fear of Failure

Fear of Success

Fear of Making the Wrong Decision

Confusion

Self Doubt

Procrastination

The other day as I was running I realized that what feels like my easy flow has changed.  My normal has become much greater than before… the reason is momentum.  I run almost everyday, even if its for an extremely short time, however the consistency has made me stronger and improved my endurance.  I always say that a truth in one area is a truth in all areas, so if this is the case in running it can be the case in other areas of my life… all the areas that I am working I can create momentum.  How do we do this?

How to Release the Emergency Brake:

Just start

What more can I say about staring except to share with you this wonderful quote by Geothe, “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”

Take Action-Do Something

Anyone who knows me knows that I can analyze till well after doomsday and this quality can seriously slow me down or even paralyze.  I like this quote my Abraham Lincoln “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” Action creates energy and energy attracts to you what you need and that creates momentum.  Even if the action doesn’t lead to the right place, it still sets magic in motion.

Affirm the Positive

I know it well, I am moving forward and bang, there is that voice telling me it won’t work or I am not good enough.  We have to get to a place where we acknowledge the negative self talk and give it absolutely no power, no power to slow us down, no power that we believe in, no power.  Instead, we affirm it will work!  We can manifest our dreams!  We are creating momentum.

Visualize and Feelize

SEE the results you want, SEE where you desire to be and most importantly FEEL as if it has already manifested.

Acting it into Reality

Many of the spiritual masters talk about this…. Surround yourself internally with what you desire to create, ruminate on it, marinate in it, allow the change to happen.

Exercise

Moving the body can do wonders to our whole beings including our brain and our moods.  Dance, run, bike, hike, practice yoga… whatever will get your juice flowing.  Feel stalled?  Bike ride or dance it out!

Rewards such as Chocolate

Sometimes the little kid in us just doesn’t want to do the work, so a bit of bargaining with the kid can help…. You can say to yourself, “I will do such and such every day and you can have a piece of chocolate after.”

Enjoy the Scenery of the Stall

If no matter what you do the stall continues you may as well love yourself and where you are while keeping your eyes on where you are going!

My wish is that we can all finally release the emergency brake by letting go of self limiting beliefs, and find that sweet spot where we gain the magic of momentum and velocity to manifest our goals and enjoy this most precious life…

The Magic of Mistakes

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on June 12, 2013 by ericasodos

Often I am amazed at how many mistakes I can make in a year, in a month or even in an hour… from big to small, petty to powerful to everything in between.  It is easy to berate ourselves for our mistakes, however I am noticing that the harsher I am the less I am able to learn from my mistakes and make better choices the next time around.  The more I distance myself from the “mistake” and just hold it with awareness, humor and compassion the more I can create magic and hopefully not keep repeating the mistake over and over again.
My friend and mentor Jeff McBride says, “fail forward fast’.. which also means “fall forward fast”. In other words… you make it to your goal faster when you fail! Isn’t that great news?  It’s fabulous to fail!!!  Mistakes are one of the biggest ways that we learn.
The dictionary definition of the word mistake is: defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness, A misconception or misunderstanding, To understand wrongly; misinterpret,an error, fault or blunder in action, opinion, or judgment, to choose badly or incorrectly
mistakes
Most of these defintions imply that a mistake is most certainly wrong.  It would be awesome and helpful to look at mistakes in a way that empowers us, instead of making us bad. Perhaps we can redefine a mistake as an action which produced an effect which taught us a valuable lesson.  Of course, sometimes we repeat the same mistake over and over again.. and this can only make us more angry at ourselves…
How can our mistakes become magic?  Magic is a type of extraordinary power. A power which can shift and transform reality in surprising and astonishing ways.  If our mistakes really were magic than they would shift our reality… maybe something would appear, or disappear or alchemically transform…perhaps a beneficial change of perception would guide us to a new door. This IS possible!  Our mistakes can “like magic” change our reality. It’s also possible just like mind reading that the mistake can give us the powers to read the future and follow our intuition.

There are indeed many different types of mistakes ranging from the really creative risk taking types to the kinds of mistakes we make because we don’t listen to our intuition or believe in ourselves.

I invite us all to try experiments where instead of getting angry or bypassing the mistake we utilize at least a few of the following steps.  I will try these steps as well and see what happens…..
Steps to Allow Mistakes to Create Magic
*Give your mistake space— no judging, only noticing.
*Love yourself and be compassionate and grateful that you made a choice even though it had an outcome which might have been hard or painful.
*Laugh at yourself (especially if its your 2nd, 3rd or 9th time repeating the same mistake) Our mistakes can make really great comedy writing.
*Write about why you made that decision.
*Figure out what you learned from the mistake.
*Take full responsibilty for your mistake (no blaming).
*Forgive yourself.
*Allow the mistake to transform you so that you can make better choices next time and attract to yourself even more magic and abundance. If the mistake had magic in it, what would it be? What would you like it to be?  Allow the magic to happen….

Wishing for you. many fun and fascinating mistakes, courage and confidence to make the needed changes so that your mistakes can ‘like MAGIC’ change and transform you and your life!

Wake Up to the Magic!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on April 24, 2013 by ericasodos
I have had a very intense few months which have brought me many opportunities to heal and grow.  One of the big experiences I recently had….. was a very serious major car accident. As the accident was happening it was clear that I would not be able to control the outcome…the only thing I could do was surrender, especially if it meant death, which is what I thought I was surrendering to ultimately. Miraculously I emerged relatively fine with even more conviction in my life. I have decided to take the accident as a wake up call.  A call to pay attention.  A call to awaken.
So now I ponder, what does it mean to wake up?  Are we actually asleep?  The definition of “wake up” is: to rouse from sleep, to stir as if from a dormant or inactive condition, to cease to sleep, to be brought into a state of awareness or alertness.
When we wake up from sleeping we are suddenly aware of color, sound, our bed, our pet and/or partner lying next to us…. Can it be the same with “waking up” to our magic?  That we are suddenly aware of our abilities to create, to know, to heal.  Waking up is basically noticing. Paying attention. Being alert.  Magic is happening all the time under the surface.  If we chose to we can summon our vital force to awaken from the places where we are asleep.
wake up
Some Magical Tools to Help You Wake Up

-Close your eyes and decide where you are sleeping and commit to waking up and consciously open to the magic
-Feel your feet planted firmly on the ground and imagine your sleep and unawareness draining out of you into the Earth
-Name 15 things everyday that you are grateful for
-Love and adore the parts of yourself you struggle with the most
-Avoid victimhood…. something isn’t working…. ask yourself, how am I responsible for this?
-Smell trees, ask them questions and listen for the answers
-Know that you CAN leap across the chasm to a new place
This morning as I experienced that familiar pattern of not wanting to wake up from my slumber… I thought again about the metaphor of waking up in life…. it is the same story.  Do I want to stay horizontal, giving into the gravity of what I already know?  Or do I want to rise up, ready to face the magic of who I am and all the joy and power that goes along with it? As Mary Oliver asks, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”  From the very depth of my being I wish for you the ability to wake up, recognize your power and live from MAGIC!

Shed that Skin for 2013

snake

Do you know why snakes shed their skin? They shed to allow for growth as well as to remove parasites. Metaphorically we too must shed our skins and get rid of what no longer serves to open and grow into our better selves.

The only way a snake is able to shed its skin is by rubbing up against what is hard and rough… sadly I have noticed our growth too is often initiated by what is painful and rough.  Right before the snake is ready to shed… it doesn’t look or feel very good.  However, after they shed the skin underneath is illuminated and fresh looking.

Are you ready to shed a layer of skin so that in 2013 you can become more vibrant, on purpose and inspired?  Why not physically and metaphorically take off your old skin?

Magical tools for shedding taken from our friend the snake:

Give yourself time and space to allow for letting go.

No matter how crabby you may get, know that you are learning, changing and growing.

Focus on the new and more empowered you!  Zoom in on what you want to create and notice how radiant you really are.

Happy New Year Shedding!

A Wand of Her Own

I am a magicianne, which is a term for a female magician.  There are many super talented, well-known and successful female magicians but because we are still in the extreme minority you rarely ever hear this term.

Famous magician Dorothy Dietrich sawing celebrity Robert Klein in half.

When I attended Jeff Mcbride’s Magic and Mystery School in Las Vegas I was told that men perform magic, women are magic… if this is the case then why is my profession so male dominated?

The reason is: Power

The definition of power:  the ability to act or do, to produce an effect; control, authority or influence over others, physical might, strength, mental or moral efficacy.

The definition of magic:  using supernatural powers to influence events, sorcery, the practice of illusory tricks; any mysterious or extraordinary quality, power or influence, possessing mysterious powers, use of charms or spells believed to have supernatural power over natural forces.

As can be seen by the above textbook definitions… the very nature of magic IS power and hence a magician is a person that exerts power…. The power to levitate, know what is going to happen, to manipulate and transform ordinary objects by a very thought….

In essence a magician is playing the part of God… all powerful all-knowing….

And like all positions and jobs in our society that are associated with power— magic is male dominated.

Other reasons (that I entirely do NOT agree with) that get tossed around as to why this is the case:

–Women are not interested in magic  (Without role models or books that even try to speak to women.  How can we be?)

–Boys turn to magic to impress girls but girls do not need to impress boys (Really? I find this odd)

–Magic is geeky and girls don’t like geeky things (I beg to differ)

–Magic is about gimmicks, science and mechanical things which do not interest girls (Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!)

Here is a list of just some of the inventions of women:

Washing machine Margaret Colvin 1871

Windshield wiper Mary Anderson 1903

Zigzag sewing machine Helen Blanchard 1873

The Square-bottomed Paper Bag Margaret Knight 1870

Battery container Nancy Perkins 1986

Beehive Thiphena Hornbrook 1861

Canister vacuum Nancy Perkins 1987

Car heater Margaret Wilcox 1893

Circular saw Tabitha Babbit 1812

Refrigerator Florence Parpart 1914

Dishwasher Josephine Cochran 1872

Electric hot water heater Ida Forbes 1917

Elevated railway Mary Walton 1881

Engine muffler El Dorado Jones 1917

One of the branches of magic where women are in the biggest minority is the branch of magic known as mentalism.. aka mind reading.  It is very interesting because most professional psychics and intuitives are women, yet in the branch of magic which most resembles psychics, women are most rare.  Personally, I find this fascinating and I would love to hear any thoughts you may have on this subject.  Can it be the memory of the persecution of witches and anyone suspected of practicing magic?

Women in Magic.  No, it’s not because we are not geeks.  It is not because we aren’t scientifically inclined.  Magic is Power.  Women are Magic.  Women are reclaiming power and thus becoming more and more visible and prevalent in magic and mind reading and science and government and…….
